Now that we have read both novels, Pelly and Fly Away Home, which one did you like the best? Why?
Now that we have completed reading Pelly, there were several similarities between Pelly and Fly Away Home. Please comment on the similarities that you noticed.
This morning each of my students did a quick search to find a pumpkin fact. Let’s take a look at what they found!
Cody – Pumpkins are used to make feed for animals.
Taylor – A pumpkin is really a squash.
Logan – Pumpkin seeds can be roasted and eaten as a snack.
Christopher – Pumpkin flowers are edible.
Alex – Pumpkins are used to make soup, pies and breads.
Ashley – Pumpkins were once used as a remedy for snake bites.
Saralyn – Pumpkins are fruit.
Shae-Lynne – Leafy vines grow from pumpkin seeds.
Brody – About four months after planting, they’re ready to harvest.
Dayton – Pumpkins are 90% water.
Tristian – Pumpkins contain Potassium and Vitamin A.
Morganne – Pumpkins are believed to have originated in North America.
Rayann – Pumpkins are members of the vine family called cucurbits.
Breanne – Native Americans called pumpkins ‘isqoutims sqash.’
Jordan – Native Americans used pumpkins seeds food food and medicine.
Thank you to Mrs. Jones who brought in oodles of pumpkins. The children were very excited to take them home and prepare them for Hallowe’en.
