Students were excited to have Ryan Walter visit our classroom. Mr. Walter is a former Stanley Cup champion. He won the cup in 1986 while playing for the Montreal Canadiens. The students were thrilled to wear his Stanley Cup ring! Mr. Waltes drew a cartoon, along with his autograph, on the SmartBoard and Mrs. Martin made copies for all the 4B students. Thank you for coming to our classroom, Mr. Walter!

Just a reminder to wear red to school tomorrow to honour our troops.

If you would like to bring a small cash donation for a poppy that would be great.

The Last of Tales of Animals in War

Uncategorized No Comments »

Today we read the last articles of Tales of Animals in War

Saralyn, Taylor, Morganne and Shae-Lynne are eager to share about a special bear and elephant.

There is a statue of Winnie, a black bear who went over to England, at Assiniboine Zoo in Winnipeg. Winnie inspired the character we all know as Winnie the Pooh! Once in England Winnie was sent to the London Zoo.

Bandoola, the elephant was very helpful to the soldiers of Britan. During the war elephants were able to pull up trees and tug army trucks out of mud. In 1944, enemies were coming to take the elephant herd and Bandoola led the elephants to safety.

Tales of Animals in War Continues

Uncategorized 3 Comments »

Today students continued reading Tales of Animals in War. Students are enjoying reading how animals helped the soldiers during the war.

Here is what Cody and Dayton reported on Gander…….. Gander was a dog that went to war. He was from Newfoundland and went to Hong Kong on a ship with the soldiers. One night in December, 1941  he noticed a grenade close to seven Canadian soldiers. He ran to it, picked it up and ran away with it…….it blew up and Gander was killed. He saved the lives of seven Canadian soldiers.

Sara tells us about Simon……..Simon was a cat. When the soldiers were sick or wounded  Simon would sit on the soldier’s bunk and keep them company. He was a good companion to the soldiers during the war. When Simon died he was buried in a pet cemetery in England.
