Tales of Animals in War Continues
Uncategorized November 7th, 2006Today students continued reading Tales of Animals in War. Students are enjoying reading how animals helped the soldiers during the war.
Here is what Cody and Dayton reported on Gander…….. Gander was a dog that went to war. He was from Newfoundland and went to Hong Kong on a ship with the soldiers. One night in December, 1941 he noticed a grenade close to seven Canadian soldiers. He ran to it, picked it up and ran away with it…….it blew up and Gander was killed. He saved the lives of seven Canadian soldiers.
Sara tells us about Simon……..Simon was a cat. When the soldiers were sick or wounded Simon would sit on the soldier’s bunk and keep them company. He was a good companion to the soldiers during the war. When Simon died he was buried in a pet cemetery in England.
